You can get +ve earth radios.

From memory, when jump starting , its +ve to +ve and -ve to -ve , dont let lead ends touch any other lead end nor the cars touch in any way.

It also used to be disconnect earth first , reconnect earth last, though thats a bit difficult with differing earths.
