Isn't everything? :D

It's a 1098 and I've actually got a 940 head that I bought a while back (with a view to boosting the engine's performance a bit) so maybe that's the way to go. Is there an idiot-proof (or at least idiot-with-some-reading-proof) way of telling if the head I've got's in decent nick or should I take it to a professional for their opinion?

I had thought I'd better beef up the brakes before installing a more free-flowing head (and have some Wolseley drums and backplates in a box waiting to be rebuilt with this in mind) but do you think I could get away with just doing the head swap and taking it easy for the moment?

Does anyone know if insurers get aerated about 940 heads on 1098 engines? I know it's a popular upgrade on here so maybe someone with one can say?

Just tell them you fitted an unleaded head from a Mini.... On it's own, it's not going to make any great difference to performance. If it doesn't have a bypass hose stub - it's definitely unleaded. But don't worry too much even if it has a stub - just use it and reset the gaps from time to time. The W brakes are the way to go......but standard brakes will be fine too unless you are insane......???

Not as far as I'm aware, but then I'd be the last to know, wouldn't I... :D

Thanks - I'll have a look at that 940 head again and see what I can see.
