That's fair, it's yours and you bought it with your own money why can't you do what you want to it

Correct or not its your car and you have the right to be individual

As said previously, it should be up to the individual what they do of course, but a lot of people do like it when others appreciate what they have done to there classic car. There are restorers out there, (possibly on here too who knows I've just got here lol) that go crazy when a chrome bolt is used instead of a zinc one or the carpet you have used is 1 shade to light etc I'm sure you guys know what I mean.

I for instance am going to be replacing what I need when I need to, or possibly even when it needed it just depends how I feel at the time lol, but it is nice to know what you guys feel about the new vs old etc, cheers for the replies so far

That's true, same thing has happened to me in the past with my Mk2 Golf GTI wings I was trying to sell, suppose its like you say some people just aren't prepared to pay for original parts

To be fair that will depend on your perception of what they are worth and whether other people agree with you.
I don't know what you priced these items at and so can't comment but if people voted with their feet and didn't buy them then I think they have simply made their feelings on your pricing known.

Well mine for instance, new your looking at somewhere around £50-55 or more for mk2 golf GTI wings, I was asking £10 for used each, and the were in excellent condition, so you tell me if I was offering them at too high a price?

I would advertise them on eBay again, MK2 VW Golfs are popular (I had one and thought it was great , so I guess I'm biased), so I would think they will sell at some point, sooner rather than later.......
Although I have to say I never had a problem with a rotten body on either my 80's Golf or the couple of 80's Polos I had, so maybe that's your problem, all the survivors don't need them!!
Still, sadly, someone will have a bump at some point.......

Lol true I had no issues with rust on both my GTI's but they sometimes have a habit of seeing the wrong side of a hedge or two over the years or a few bangs and scrapes from those who can't seem to drive. I no longer have the wings I did sell them eventually but it was to a friend, Sod's law

Always keep to the originals where possible. For example, I would always rather see an original interior in good but slightly worn condition but if its ripped etc you have no choice but to replace.
Original chrome items are much better so if you can get hold of new old stock go for it.

its nice to keep the car looking original ,but there are upgrades i have halogen headlights ,seatbelts ,a servo on the brakes ,last year i got some mini light alloys .i like the way it looks , but other people may not .i once got lectured by a member of the public saying i had the wrong headlights , i just smiled and said i had paid for them and i like to see where im going in the dark .at the end of the day its down to the person concerned .if you want to be a cup collector then go down the original route .i like to use my car , but the choice is yours .

With any of my cars,I try my very best to either restore its original parts,obtain original NOS parts,or excellent s/h original parts to use as is or restore.
If after a long search,and its clear it can't be obtained,or time is not on my side,only then do I resort to buying new repro parts.
I have bought repro parts,only to send them back due to a quality issue!
But I will still be looking for that elusive original part to fit instead of the repro.

I bought my MM in 1976, sidevalve engine and all and drove it from London straight down the M4 to Devonport where it remained all summer with the top off, it was great. In the eighties I converted it with disc brakes and a hot engine and enjoyed it until I got a bit too old to drive that fast so converted it back to standard except for the telescopic dampers at the rear and the antiroll bar at the front, it still corners amazingly. So you could say so far I have had the best of both worlds. It won the best tourer at Sewerby Hall last year which was a great surprise and made my day!

That's kewl it's nice to have such a history with a car, belated congrats on the win too
