first fuel pump was blocked
second, third, fourth times the engine kept cutting out,i sorted this by adjusting the screw by the carb
got the vehicle looked at and given a full service by a local garage that deal with classics called motorvation, after picking up the car from there it dident sound right and the head gasket went.I asked them about it and they just told me as far as they were concerned it was fine when it left.So I then took it to a garage near by who fix our Bomb disposal trucks and commercial vehicles and also the occasional classic.they worked on it,replaced many worn hoses, cleaned the carb, reset the emissions and worked on the head gasket which promptly broke shortly after I drove it.Making a total of 6 brake downs and a total cost of 1060 pounds, thats including a 300 pounds full service by motorvation.

You are being shocking ripped off....£300 for a 'full service' is BMW rates.....you urgently need to learn how to DIY it. Maybe someone near you could come and have a look at your car if you are willing to learn. Minors ARE very reliable - if simple DIY maintenance is carried out.

when i had a full service on my bmw i got a lot of change from £3oo.
as roy said find a local member who will give your car a check over.
then get back to the garage that ripped you off for the head gasket work.
they should fix your car for free after you paid all the money.
be firm with them as mentioned before.
do'nt give up you will win in the end.

There are MMOC branches for London South Central, and North London & Middlesex, one of them would probably be able to find someone relatively local to you. Contact details will be in the directory that you got when joining the National club.
