Patio Cleaner has around 5% hydrochloric acid according to the label on the can I used a few weeks ago - works a treat.

Thanks Richard - but does it shift ingrained underseal.....??

I may just try that - thanks. I should explain the 'underseal' is a few tiny spots, smaller than 5p - attacking them with choke cleaner etc just seems to spread them out into a dark stain...... Good news is - she has found other things to worry about now - and seems to have 'forgotten' about the drive for the moment..... parking the modern car over the worst part seems to have helped the forgetfulness...

Out of sight, out of mind.
Hopefully the new problem will be less intractable
