Display Area.....not judging class.
I would not want an award for saving our heritage.

I have vehicles that I have given nut and bolt restorations too, took to shows in the eighties and afterwards ,got the trophies, got the tee-shirts,got the slap on the back by fellow enthusiasts etc etc.....but of late I have kept a few vehicles in my collection totally original to preserve their patina.
If you find a little gem in a barn, garage or warehouse you do not have to rip it apart the minute you get it home.
Stand back and give the vehicle some thought to how you are going to approach the matter.

I know this car is not a Morris Minor.
I found it in this garage in deepest darkest Norfolk last year.It had been stored away for over twenty years.

I cleaned it,got it Mot`d and left it as it is.

It drives and handles superbly.....and gets lots and lots of attention at shows when I tell people it has never been restored.

Here you go...a total blank canvas.

What would you do to this little car.???

And no...do not say "scrap it,its not a Morris"

I am going to get it running,Mot`d (so I know it is safe) and leave it as it is,not even clean it.
Then park it up next to my fully restored van at local shows.

It will cause a laugh.!!!!

Superb. :D

Of all the things in an unsympathetic restoration that annoy me the most, it's when the wonderfully patinated 70 year old leather seats are ripped out to be covered by immaculate new leather.

Theres an A35 that is seen at local shows, its was stored away in 1961 until early last year, the only thing the owner has done is sort the brakes out and theres always a crowd round it talking about it.

My van only needs a quick polish and back on the road, no mot required.... :P[frame]Image[/frame]

Marvellous, thats a lovely Magnette, and the A30 looks amazingly solid too. That'll look great out on the show scene.
Yes the MOT exemption is madness - I too have a tatty A30 parked outside at work (not quite as picturesque as yours!) and I'm regularly asked to sell it by folk who just want a very cheap car -classic ins, no tax, no test, just drive it away. Not bothered how well the rear springs are attached to the body but thats another subject....

Tempted to do a similar mechanical overhaul and MOT this, but I guess the restoration bug will get me and it'll end up in bits.. :)

I had no intention of purchasing another Morris Traveller, but when I heard the family were going to sell this one I soon changed my mind.
This Morris Minor Traveller is the totally original 1961 vehicle i mentioned earlier.

It has only covered 44,000 miles from new documented.
The underside has not had any bitumen or waxoil applied,it is how it left the factory.
Never been welded anywhere.
Two owners from new.
Nothing has been added or removed from the car.
Crossply tyres.
Totally original duo tone interior.
Original Green paint everywhere, underneath the wings, floorpans, spare wheel area etc.
The doors shut correctly. (Not like restored cars, where the weather seals push the doors out of line)
Very Solid Solid Solid.

Now what do you do with a car like this.....concourse it or leave it as it is.

OK the red door pulls are not original and will be changed for the correct colour, but the rest of the car is.
These photo`s were taken two weeks ago.

Since this time I have serviced the engine and gearbox and have it running.
The fuel tank was cleaned out and lines cleaned.
Electric fuel pump overhauled.
All fluids changed.
No welding needed anywhere.
The brakes just needed cleaning and adjusting (they were exercised on a regular basis).
Once the engine was running the heat from it helped free off the clutch which was stuck.
All the electrical items worked.

The car was stored on wooden blocks, everything was well greased, and the engine and brakes were exercised on a regular basis.
This helps no end when getting it back on the road.
It has now passed its Mot

She has her original 950cc engine, and she drives great.
We are leaving her as she is for now.

I have cleaned the glass and the interior of the car,but everything looks in good original condition, even the headlining which normally gets torn or very dirty.

I am not even going to cut and polish the paintwork.
I will remove the red oxide from the paintwork carefully that someone has put onto the car.
