I'm interested in this, as I will have to take the core plugs out to clear out the silt I have in my engine.
How do you do take them out? Katy says to drill a hole - but they are not that accessible when engine is still fitted in car.
The last time I had a core plug out was when my Series V saloon engine froze (with no anti-freeze) back in the 1978/79 winter season, and the plug did what it was supposed to do - found it on the end of about 4 inches of frozen "ice pop".

I urge you not to touch the core plugs - very awkward job 'in the car' . Just use the drain cleaner.....
