My goodness this a debate, thanks for your input everyone and yes i got my own block back, also the cranks were not tested in another block , it's only a one man firm, i don't think he had any other A series blocks in the shop, i'm no mechanic but if it's not the crank, ( i watched the test) and not the shells because they match it has to be the block dosen't it, for whatever reason, the oil was as black as your hat and thick, that and boiling the coolant at some point......

Yes the tester did but the streight edge on both sides of the middle casting, but i could not see all he was doing at the time, he is an engine specialist in Witney, better not mention his name :-? .

As you can tell I'm not that familiar with engineering terms, sorry i should have said v blocks and a dial gauge which i think is the normal way a professional would check if things are straight :wink: .

Yes indeed -I just assumed engine blocks...silly me! :roll:
