Ahh, when Renaults were still properly French. Take care of it, my friend, as that too is now a rare sight on our roads.

I agree with that - VERY few R5's about now. Definite future classic so look after it and, when it's done its time, store it away carefully for 20 years and see how much it's worth then

Hmm, just over 2500 still in use and only 24 of the Famous Five special edition. Makes Minors look pretty common really... I certainly haven't seen another around since I've had this so no waving opportunities yet!
Perhaps I'd better get a cheap modern car to preserve the Renault 5
Actually I'm starting to quite like it. As JJ says its still odd and French enough to be a bit different with quirky dashboard and controls that only make sense when you've driven it for a while. Original plan was to move it on in the spring but I'll see how it goes. It may stay a while yet...

Yes, many R5's are being restored and put back on the road here - the pic below is one that belongs to our local club.
It's a 1972 pre-production model, completly restored to original condition. It was one of less than 50 produced to present to dealers before real production started. This one is the
oldest known example of an R5 surviving and running in France.[frame]

I had a 1978 R5GTL, 1300cc engine, very economic -was unfortunately a rust pot !!
