Looks like I need to get these engines stripped down

They both need rebuilding, so I'll try the crank in the block before committing.. Out of interest, why use Mini 998 pistons in place of the 1100 pistons, presumably they are different?

Different stroke - so longer pin to crown piston needed - ie the Mini 998 since it is same stroke as Minor 948 engine.

Ah I see, it's piston design

This could be a go-er yet. Just need to decide whether it's a good enough idea to use two 'good' engines to make one 'superb' one

(will be using a spare 950 and 1100 engine).

You only need a 948 crank - and the Mini pistons.

That's what I'm saying - it'll be simpler to rebuild them as a 950 and an 1100, instead of sourcing a crank and having one left over. Like I say, think it could be a go-er, cranks aren't exactly like hens teeth..
