A40 centres I think - fitted with special 5.5" rims...... I 'think' Spridget wheels had holes drilled around the centre pan for extra brake cooling.

Brilliant! Didn't know any survived. Only experienced the Hornby 0 gauge tinplate 'Bramham Moor' and 'Yorkshire's myself... :)
Sorry will shut up now and let folks talk about wheels!

Hahaha -I can't afford O gauge - my trains are all Dublo. And the Traveller lives under the layout...

Roy do you have an ingenious winch/pulley mechanism for the layout to hoist it heavenwards? I want to build a new layout in my garage.

No - the layout boards are fixed just above the Traveller roof height (full length and width of the garage, with 'just' enough clearance for the up/over door. Trav is rolled out and I have a quick erect table to stand on in the centre open area. I suppose I could stand on the Trav bonnet - but it would maybe scratch the paint.......

Sounds a good solution for a decent size layout!

. Fabulous, saw some of that at a Peterborough model rail show a few weeks ago. My own layout will be modern OO though some of my best memories are of playing with my uncle's 1940s clockwork O gauge in his attic when I was a child. Some of that type rolling stock was going for £100 each at the Peterborough show.

Here in the States 13" trailer wheels with 4" pcd are readily available...usually the "white spoke" type, but there are other less "look at me" styles. Set up for tubeless, not expensive, but not sure if they are suitable e.g. offset, strength. Anyone tried this?
