Perhaps a later steering rack and/or column was used? I can't think of another way. Indeed the dished wheels were black and shared with the BMC/BL 1100.

I don't think that wheel is seen on an 1100......... !! It's been a few years - but pretty sure it has a smaller diameter and flatter wheel.
