That's just typical of my car !! I don't have any blue wires.

I have a red which seems to be the side light.

Green/Yellow dipped and I presume the green/read is the main beam.

There is also a green which I don't know.

As can been seen in the picture below the green/red has a different join connector to the rest which I cant seperate and clean etc.[frame][/frame]

What, loose?
No,it needs to be earthed to the body for the lights to work!

It is loose but the rest of the lights work apart from the main beam.

I had a similar problem, it turned out to be that on dip beam circuit was earthing through the high beam circuit - so both came on with the dip beam, ie - I had lights on the dip beam but nothing on main beam. Plug it into the body and see if it works now..

Thanks chesney, will do. Where is the best place to plug it in.

On mine, there is a provision for the bullet connector to be plugged into on the inner wing, but mine is an earlier car to yours I think so it may not be the same. If not, just try to touch it to an existing earth if the cable will stretch, if not, scrape some crud away from the inner wing and tape it or something as a test. Obviously if that is the fault it will need a more permanent solution ;)

The blue/white and blue/red are very obvious in that picture - you should get checked for colour blindness........! And yes the black must plug in to an earth return - which should be there or thereabouts.

The earth clip on some (?most) cars was a double lucar female connection , sort of a [ with the top and bottom bits curled over for the lucar bullet connector to push into, (one for the headlamp and one for the side lamp/ side lamp/flasher combined bulb ) . the I bit of the conection had a hole in it for a bolt to feed through , secured by a nut on the wheel side of the inner wing. Over time the curly bits corroded off leaving a mysterious flat bit of thin rusty metal bolted on the flitch plate or similar area, of course some painted their little bit of metal so its earthing capabilities became much reduced or nil , and bullet connectors on the ends of wires fell off or internally corroded.

As all bullet connections , including feed wires , deterioriated , or headlamps changed for differing types , the pain of soldiering new connections in situ was abandoned ( along with any idea of sticking with the lucas/ morris wire color coding of wiring ) , and the scotchlock/ snaplock type connections substituted , along with the rather handy idea of changing the earth wire connector for a simple crimp ring and self tapping screw through the inner wing , which seems to work for me.
