thx for those, i'll use them to compare to mine and see if i can make a positive or indeed negative I.D. at the moment though the only glaring difference is the filter, mine being saucepan shaped and that my engine is green not blue.

Well chaps, finally got to take a picture of the engine, does this help identify the size/CC?[frame]

Well it's definitely NOT an 803, so that's a real bonus and good upgrade.
I'd be concerned about all those extra wires though.

Have to admit my old man wasn't renowned for tidiness, after the charity ride/drive over the next couple of weeks I think I'll buy the car from my mum rather than let her get rid if it and I'll plan to do a few jobs on it, wiring being one of them, so as I'm a newbie to all this I guess I'll be making more visits to the forum

thx for all your help so far

You could possibly make up a seperate 'wiring harness' for all the wires scattered about, that way they would at least be wrapped together until branching off to various components. Tracing any future faults would be a lot easier too!

The 803 has a screw on oil filter on the side of the block. The 948 engine has '950' cast in the side of the block - under the exhaust manifold. Let's see some pictures of the SIDES of the engine. You don't answer the questions about the engine number???

sorry, been a bit busy lately with my charity bike ride on which the car was our support vehicle
I'll attempt to locate the engine number over the coming days and see if we can sort this once and for all.
thanks again guys.

The first thing I notice is the one wood screw securing the chassis plate(?) - check the chassis number is also STAMPED into the bulkhead.
Take a pic of the body number plate - check fixing screws of the 2 plates!

That plate ain't moved in a long while!
BMF = S2 4dr
Although,odd the screws fixing the chassis plate to the b/head don't match(?).
Check the STAMPED chassis nos!
