Mort a 69 traveller is my daily drive, rain or shine.
Does the school run and my 2 girls love it as do all
their friends.

Didnt mean for you thread to be hijacked. I suppose that some would class me as using my Minor as a "Toy" it only come out when the weather is good, I will use it in the rain but try not to put it away wet for obvious reasons.
We have days out in her and go on holiday in good old blighty in her.

I am a mobile engineer for a large IT company and do a fair bit of mileage day to day, I got my new Focus in November and so far have done 13500 miles. As much as I would like to,I dont think my employer would take too kindly to me leaving my company car at home and use the Minor day to day
Also my wifes job dictates that she does a lot of travelling, albeit fairly local I dont think it would be feasable to use it as a daily drive. So really to try and keep the car in the best condition we do use it but just not as a daily drive.

^^^^ I'm intrigued that you say your Moggy wouldn't be practical for your Wifes (mainly local) journeys. Exactly what the old District Nurse would have used it for-easy to drive, great visibility, good turning circle, particularly in these FWD days! And economicalish and DIFFERENT!! Only thing against it being the .........dare I say it......... standard brakes

Nonsense! He has certainly never even driven one! I did 4,500 miles last year in my Traveller, shows and normal use, and drove to Scotland and back in the convertible and did a wedding on the way down in Newcastle. (Would do more than 4,500 miles a year, but that keeps the insurance cheap, below the 5k limit!)

Minors are very usable cars

Yes, I have the standard drum brakes, and they are top of my list of thing to do (convert to disks)

But to be honest, as long as you keep your distance from other cars (measured in miles lol ) you do get used to the bad brakes (sort of)

But to be honest, as long as you keep your distance from other cars (measured in miles lol ) you do get used to the bad brakes (sort of)

The brakes aren't bad if they are properly maintained! With all wheel cylinders free and the brakes properly bled and adjusted, Minor 8" front brakes can lock the wheels in the dry under hard braking.

To many folks blame the standard brakes design when the problem is really maintainence.

True, maintainance is key, but even mine, whilst well maintained, still arent thst great tbh. I have driven a Minor with disks, and you can tell the difference.

Hi, Thanks for the many interesting replies. I last owned a Traveller in the 1970's. It was my only transport and drove approx 70 miles a day in it.
Hopefully in the not to disant future I will get one and my Kia sedona can move on.A very good work horse but looking for simple mechanics.

I can apprieciate that some use their car on a daily basis and do a lot of motorway miles but my employer provides me with a car and I have to use it. As for the wife, true she does do local milage but in her job she parks in supermarket carparks.
Now I am sure many of us have come back to our cars to find dents and dings from trolleys by people who dont care about other peoples property.
Personally I would find the experience of owning a "classic car" rather deflating if I spent most of my time reparing faults created by other people.

Using the car day to day would be more practical if I could be sure that the car was in a company car park for example where it would be safe from people who dont care about other peoples property and toerags who would nick it just for fun.

I get my enjoyment from keeping the car in the best possible condition I can, some get theres from driving it day to day
