I've explained before - the very reason I make the statement about coils is to try to make folks think twice before automatically blaming 'the coil' every time the engine develops a wee sniffle... And the reason I put 'never' in inverted commas is because yes, just sometimes , it IS the coil! So - by all means keep blaming the poor coil - but frankly - the old coils are incredibly reliable (but do always check connections) - and new/modern replacements are not nearly as reliable....treat them with great suspicion.....even more so if they are 2 ohm 'ballast' type coils being run on 14 volt ignition systems! They WILL get extremely hot - but give great sparks until they fail...........
