Can you pop up a picture of the carb you have ? Yes - if it will be best as you describe - I would leave the cam follower cover breather open - but extended down under the car - this is how my own car is set, and so normally some fresh air will be sucked through the engine so taking away any moisture = no mayo in the rocker cover. It also allows any excess pressure to escape - perhaps when running flat out.......and thus preventing oil leaks. But yes - it's not unknown to join the two breathers with a T or Y piece and feed both into the carb. I wouldn't 'overhaul' the carb - as long as the piston rises and falls easily it's well worth trying on the car - assuming it is 'complete' of course.

This piston is the big ally thing in the middle of the carb.
The black thing has part of the damping mechanism on it, there should be some oil in where it goes.

Here is the carb, i unscrewed the damper thingy and pulled it out, there was little oil, but it seemed to slide smoothly, so should I just give it a clean and stick it on then?

Is it a H2s?[frame]Image[/frame]

Take the air cleaner off and check the the piston slides freely.
It should only take finger pressure to lift it up and it should fall with an audible clunk when it gets to the bottom.

Yes - just give it a good clean - toothbrush and alloy wheel foam spray works well - maybe some 'Carb/choke cleaner too.

Thank you, clean it inside and out or just outside? Then a new gasket and pop it on?

Pretty much just what you can see - provided that piston does rise/fall as it should.

Well, I took the air filter off and with finger pressure it easily moves up, when you let go it 'swooshes' down and makes a gentle thump noise - I'm going to test it against the one on the car to see if it makes roughly the same noise!!

Doing it now late, oh and when fitting this on I'll need a new gasket - now I do have several gaskets sets, including a decoke head set new in bag, and a bottom end gasket set new in bag, they came with the car. Would the decoke set have a carb gasket in it? The item number is GSK101A bull motif, or would I but it seperately? :D
