I am sure that the bottom of the chassis leg would rot out before an un-plated 8mm infill had succumbed to surface rust.
I would go for the liberal coating of well thinned Waxol :D

I only mentioned plating as it is quite cheap. My mate has a guy on hand who will plate a small bucket of bits and pieces for 20€.

Good tips, thanks. Does anyone know if it's possible to slide such a plate under the master cylinder without having to remove it?

If so, I may well have a go...

You can't just slide a plate in, the area needs to be flat which means the nut cages have to be removed.
