I have a switch, and also remove a component and also have a visible deterrent. A lock that locks the handbrake lever and car in gear.
The best has to be a tracker device as the police can find your car again once the tracker is activated. These really do work.

Yep, that's how they ship cars abroad despite trackers or any other security device.
You can put them off, delay, frustrate them. But if they really want your car they just break into your house and take the keys..............
