is no one listening? There is a far more effective way to remove paint than messy and slow paintstripper, even at it's most potent.

Don't know about that,just had to strip a fibreglass car to gell coat to repaint,(Can't user paint stripper on fibreglass)Sanding off put more dust into the garage than the icelandic dust cloud,Last time I used stripper on a back to metal respray,all the paint was contained in large sweepupable pieces with no dust in every corner in the garge to blow back up when spraying. Give me the chemical way every time,unless your next door folk don;t mind all the asthma inducing dust blowing about ,if you do it outside

modern power tools now have a dust collection system.
We all know that working on cars has many hazards and sometimes the most effective way is not practical for a variety of reasons, e.g. neighbours, as you say. I gave up on paint stripper many years ago as being slow and messy not to mention hazardous. I too have stripped a car using a combination of a DA sander and a vibrating sander and it takes time. Strip and clean discs are a revalation in comparison, yes it is dusty but that soon cleans up.

You can buy discs for your angle grinder composed of a cellular hard plastic/rubber type substance.Cost around a fiver each.They are superb for paint removal wit no risk of scoring/gouging the metal or heat distortion.Even pitted rust comes up bright and shiny.Maybe a dozen would strip the whole car.I never go near paint stripper unless I'm stripping something with an awkward shape such as a front grille.Its totally messy making a thick slimy liquid thats a pain to get rid of.You have to get rid of all the stuff youve scraped off straightaway otherwise the whole lot sets solid and you then have to apply more stripper to soften it all up again!Unless youre scrupulous about cleaning it all off afterwards theres always the chance of some remaining to cause grief at the painting stage.

that sounds like the discs I was referring to, sort of open meash about 3\4" thick when new?

That's em mate.Brilliant bits of kit.

I just bought some more Nitromors after using up the last of my old stuff - oh my goodness, twice as expensive and absolutely useless. The old (grey) paste had paint wrinkling on application, the new (green) stuff did nothing to the black protective coat applied to new wings over 24 hours.

I'll try Alex's tip of the stripping discs next.

I did say it was rubbish! .I saw that it was new and improved but did not read where it said not suitable for car paint,yet they sell it in Halfords!

In the classic car newspaper (Classic Car weekly or Buyer, I can't remember) they mention Por 15 stuff a few times. Anyone have any experience of this stripper?

Dunno about POR-15 stripper but i can well and truly say that POR-15 rust-preventive paint is the stuff to have.

I might add that the suppliers import this in bulk from the USA so they are not regulated by stupid EU laws as to what they put in. You should read the health warnings on the POR-15 products!

Just buy dichloromethane and put it back into the Nitromors!

I'd still go for the Notromors. If you find a small hole you can easily deal with it. Sandblasting cannot be done slowly. It's all or nothing. You can end up with more hole than door (in this case)

i read a post earlier today on the MIG welding forum, which basically said that Nitromors is of little use these days. The poster came up with an alternative which he said really did the job as it contains Methylene Chloride.
