Yes, I'm going to try! Tried slightly this evening but it just turned the wheels... even on the ground, so will try and get some angle iron to keep the flange steady.

I was just wondering Jane if you had tried to tighten up the drain plug, its not a combination of a bit of spray from the prop shaft, and a drip from the plug. If it is the plug, drain the oil, ptfe tape on the plug threads and put it back?

Icrawled under and examined, it is coming from under the... looking to a moss diagram... from under the 'dust cover' .. definately from inside where the pinion goes in. Not, though, any oil around the actual diff / pinion nut though.

When you put the new seal in, remember that the outer face of it just goes flush with the end of the differential housing. Don't drive it in too far.

No!!!
Please don't put extensions, lengths of scaffold tube, or the like on ratchet drivers. I found the ten or eleven quid I splashed out on a 24" Breaker Bar was one of my better investments.
To stop the wheels turning, could you get someone to sit inside with their hoof hard on the footbrake? I'm sure you'll find a volunteer, and if you're really lucky they'll offer to get dripped on while you push the brake.

In the end put it on jacks and used the bar attached to the flange as has been suggested, ten minutes latter a new seal that is not leaking 20 miles latter. Thanks for all the advice guys
