Very good points. (oh and the idea about engine before Halogen lights...probably best ;). I have always wondered how they connect).
'Spose money and sense says keep the Mog, and fix it. £1400 for new car inc. insurance OR few hundred for a working beautiful classic. The choice...

Would it be possible for you to film/record the noise of the engine. We might be able to diagnose something?

I notice you're not far from me - there's a 1098 van engine in Luton on ebay at the moment, currently at £10. It's probably a low compression one (I asked the seller for the engine number but apparently it's been removed), but worth having as a spare if you can get it cheap.

I love how its so cheap (and relatively easy to fit) that its reasonable to actually have a spare engine...

Can you point us to the 'van' engine ? I can't find it. And yes - I have two spare engines, two spare gearboxes and sadly only the one spare axle.......

Here be the van engine. Obviously I've no idea if it's any good, but it might suffice as a stopgap while the current engine is being repaired.

Thanks! Dunno why I couldn't find it - searched for 1098 engine and Morris engine and didn't get it. As you say - it will be a fine stop-gap engine, and it only takes an hour or so to swap a Minor engine anyway. The price is definitely RIGHT!
