I did a course in vehicle interior trim restoration and can well understand where Newtons prices come from, just on the time involved in making and fitting the covers. Add to that their expertise, range of original type fabrics and materials and you can see why they cornered the market.
having said that, for myown cars I'll do it myself if poss. (Obviously if its rare duotone and only they can source the materials there's not much choice), but I'll have a go at using s/h MM interior and making up a usable original set out of old back seats for eg, and as below recovering Series 2 van seats. This was the first one I did when still at college. Not perfect but satisfying to do...
