Discussed often and long! The standard 8" front drums and 7" rear drums are perfectly adequate for any sane motoring with a standard 1098 engine. You can fit the discs - but then you would need to modify the master cylinder by removing a seal and then you may find the pedal pressure is too high and so you need to fit servo - and since disc brakes 'use up' brake fluid as the pads wear - many fit remote fluid level reservoirs so they can easily keep an eye on it. The expense and hassle mounts up....... Some folks fit larger 8" rear drum brakes from the Wolseley 1500, and of course quite a few of us use 9" front drums from the same car - easily fitted and work very well indeed.

When fitting discs its normal to remove the top hat from the master cylinder as it creates residual pressure which is fine for drums but not for discs, the other item you will need is a remote brake fluid reservior.

You don't need a remote fluid reservoir as long as you check the level from time to time.

What do you use to replace the top hat from the master cylinder and what seal would you need to remove from the master cylinder.

I cut a little bit out of it to disable the pressurising function.
