Places like this will sell silencers for exhausts -
http://www.cbsonline.co.uk/
A noticeably loud exhaust will become irritating and tiresome after a while and only brings you to attention of the wrong people like the police or local council noise enforcement dept so it is best to try and quieten it down a little bit anyway. Before you get a name for yourself and then you will find the BiB pulling you over for any old excuse and giving FPN for anything they can find or sending you for a vehicle inspection.

Nobody has stated the truth about loud noise. It is just infantile and stupid.
If you want to make loud noises, and drive like an idiot .come here to

no not slide it all the way in just a bit just to make the gases go round it, and i was told my pipe might not have much back pressure anyway, and cause i dont want to cut large chunks out of my newish pipe

Hotrodder, take the advice given a fit a decent exhaust system as it will help your engine to run more efficiently and driving around making lots of noise will only draw the wrong type of attention to you.

Goodness! I can't wait to hear what it sounds like when I fit mine - good points made about drawing attention to yourself with a loud exhaust though. I'm going to run with mine for a time and see if it really is too loud to be acceptable and then maybe I'll whack in a second box, I'm not
that antisocial
As to it not being a quality exhaust system, I thought straight through exhausts were the most efficient in terms of engine tuning, maybe not for economy or noise, but surely a straight through system lets exhaust gasses escape quicker? And it doesn't get much more staight through than a cherry bomb.

I used to have a tuned 1098 4dr with 2 cherry bombs on the exhaust - loud but much more efficient (power not necessarily fuel). It was loud under acceleration (as are the minis running on RC40's). However, this is good, because you don't get people stepping into the road without hearing you. The dangerous cars are the new electric hybrids that you cant hear when they are driving around town or in busy car parks! Think of young pedestrians and go loud!

Think of young pedestrians and go loud!
Would this be because they will be wearing headphones or concentrating on their mobile phone?
Insufficient back pressure in the exhaust will allow some unburned mixture to escape out of the exhaust valve, which is why your fuel consumption gets much worse.

I'm going to stick a spark plug in the end of the exhaust to counter that

haha
Only to be used off road of course

I run my van with a genuine 70s lakepipe, tootling around its fine not much louder than a standard system bit if I stomp on it a but, it gets a good growl around 3000 rpm and really barks at anything above that and I'm always carefull when I pass horses etc,but to be honest after an hour on the motorway I wish I'd got a decent silencer on there or a diverter between two systems like the old cut outs they used to sell.

ah yeah, i can see your side pipe just in the photo - nice one

I would love some side pipes, going for side exit instead, close enough!
