I have to say, until earlier this year I had an Austin 1300 with a mechanical pump and I never had a problem with it, despite it being the original one fitted in 1973!
It ONLY ever does it when I've been stuck in slow moving traffic for more than about 3 minutes. My first Minor used to do exactly the same thing as well. I was told it was because the heat from the engine/exhaust vapourises the fuel in the carb float chamber.ampwhu wrote: i've found that excessive ticking means it's got an air leak. it's sucking air as well as fuel.

South Norfolk can't have much traffic, it would be undrivable in the smoke.stuck in slow moving traffic for more than about 3 minutes
Long Stratton on the A140 has mile long tailbacks during rush hour, and Norwich city centre is a nightmare after 4.30pm.MarkyB wrote:South Norfolk can't have much traffic, it would be undrivable in the smoke.stuck in slow moving traffic for more than about 3 minutes
