Oh yes - it will work well at lower revs - but overall 'power' at full revs will likely be limited to much the same as a 1098 since the carb limits even it's maximum power. BL realised that early in Mini production - and put the bigger 1.5" carb on the 998 engines very early on. A 1.5" carb on an otherwise standard 1098 is probably worth 3 or 4 bhp.

" Did you let "her indoors" drive it then? " - Her indoors will barely sit in the car, never mind drive it - and I doubt her feet could reach the pedals anyway. I can hardly admit to exceeding the speed limit on a public forum - not that I would ever do that anyway..........but the Dalveen Pass is a lovely open sweeping road with virtually no traffic........ very tempting. Just need to watch out for the motorbikes creeping up on me - doing about 120 mph I reckon!!!!!

I got done for speeding last night. You should have seen the expression on the officer's face that pulled me in! I explained I had just replaced the front yoke on the propshaft due to an oil leak and was just testing the car. He said I was doing 87km/h in a 70km/h zone. Quite disappointing as I thought I was going faster. I'll have to check the speedo against a satnav. A great day in all, oil leak stopped, beginning of the month and the cops have their coffee kitty full, no points, and I have a souvenir which will be framed as proof that I have the fastest Moggy in Düsseldorf! The best 20€ ever spent! The officer, quite a nice chap, was actually more concerned as to whether I had solved the problem. That grin I won't forget in a hurry.
Just some useless off-topic information.

Your speedo will be fine with the 1275 Josh, it's only a change in diff or tyre size that will effect the speedo
