Have just bought 2 x 5 litres of Fuchs Silkolube 20w50 of a local fuchs supplier £25 for 2 (delivered). I don't mind paying the extra because I know it is good stuff. Definately wouldn't buy 5 litres at £6.00 especially not from Asda or the like.

The minor engine is a very basic thing - cheap oil is fine. I wouldn't put it in my modern cars though!

A basic engine doesn't mean cheap oil !!! My engine is original and excellent, I want to keep it that way. When you spend hundreds on petrol why buy cheap oil !!!

if im using a cheap oil i add a small bottle of stp to the oil it still cheaper than a 20 pound can,but i change the oil on a regular basis ,each to his own . and that way you have all the benifits of an expensive oil costs me about 8 pounds .

Don't like the sound of this at all, maybe it's time to start panic buying?
My guess is that there are a very limited number of refineries, maybe just one that were still making 20/50 and they've decided it's uneconomical and have stopped.

I've looked in a number of local supermarkets (tesco, Morrisons, Asda etc.) and the local motor factors and none of them seem to stock 20/50 anymore
