There are a lot if not all threads in the block that are metric thread havent had the crank out yet

I don't really know much more. I knew someone once who had a couple of these Minors and he told me about that.

I certainly had 3 X Morris 8E - with that s/v engine - yes it had Whit nuts - but wasn't aware of the metric threads!

Hi Charlie, I've sorted it now. For some reason the filter will accept ****** with a capital letter but not without!

Edit: The swear filter has been altered now so you won't have the same problem in future.

obviously the person that wrote the filter has a better grasp of English than I do and recognises that with a capital W it is a persons name and recognises it as such, whoever with a lower case w it could be something else..

there are certainly one or two metric threads on the MO side valve engine which I found very odd when I rebuilt the engine, i just put it down to someone "tapping" out the odd thread or two over the years

thanks for that, at least it explains the French connection.

The article, once again, highlights the engineering expertise that Britain has but for some reason it never seemed to extend to the commercial side. If the commercial had matched the engineering then perhaps we would still have a thriving manufacturing industry. I'm sure it is not quite as simple as that as government policies etc. have a part to play, but Britain certainly had it's share of gifted engineers.

Certainly interesting - but the engine was copied by Hotchkiss from an American design - maybe they changed to metric threads - seems surprising though since it was being made in Britain.

im a big fan of the nissan ca18det 200sx turbo engine
ive had a few into 350 bhp with not much work
im in the process of fitting a 300bhp one in my moggy pick up at the moment
(well have been for the last 2 &1/2 years!!)

Theres a in chap nz with rx7 motor puting out about 600 bhp in moggy pickup now thats what you call real power and is a nice looking one

for me a ****** rotary engine would be interesting..ever since i saw a guy lean in and lift one up out of his Ro80 engine bay in cardiff they have facinated me.. obviously he could have removed lots and lots of parts but still impressed me..

Has anyone considered using a Subaru engine? there us a guy in NZ who put one into a locost clubman by welding up the front differential in the AWD box and then connected the rear drive shaft to a conventional Diff, can you imagine a moggie with a WRX engine?

not a subaru engine but same idea looked amazing turned up at the national rally this year very smart ...

As you say it looks real smart and that was what Alex Issiginous had in mind originally for the Minor

if i recall, it's then mated to a toyota five speed, and a standard back axle (with hardened half shafts). pushes out about 140bhp, amazed the axle copes!

the suspension is quite high at the front purely because the exhaust goes under the engine. any lower and the manifold would bottom out!

Would have to be the Ford 2.9 ltr Cosworth, 206 bhp from the Ford Scorpio Ultima. Far far far too big in every way for a moggie but one hell of an engine!

well funny enough I'd choose a blown small block chevy . Although I wouldn't mind a big block twin turbo

Over a year later, I know, but I recently came across this:

BWM M-100 2-stroke opposed-piston marine diesel; 1332cc, 100bhp@4800rpm, 575mm long, 612mm wide, 75kg.

If one could find a way to rig an automotive clutch it would be perfect for a diesel Minor, as the exhaust ports aren't going to be directly into the chassis legs ...
