Thanks for everyone for the helpful replies, in the end, I am certain that my car is an original convertible, not a replica:
The original VIN Number which is given on the first DVLA registration certificate corresponds to Touring or Convertible, not saloon. If anyone was going to massage the switch, they wouldn't have given saloon as the type as long ago as 1967.
The same VIN number & registration remain on all the DVLA change of ownership documents provided after a V888 request so noone has switched plates along the lines.
The engineer's report at valuation describes it as an original , a point he was asked to be very specific over.
My local garage Chris Bransby ( formerly Tom Roy) is only 3 miles away and didn't have any doubts
Conclusion DVLA/original garage have mis classified it.
Now just to get back to enjoying driving it.
