Aupickup - no I don't mind you saying. Didn't know there was an alternative.
Adrian - it was seeing the photo of your wife's car that made me look!! I thought I had a difficult resto until I saw your pics.

As Dennis has suggested the solid ones last much longer and if you cant locate one they are easy enough to make from a piece of heater hose.

I've never had a concertina-type bypass hose fail on any a-series engined car I've had over the last 30 years, so I wouldn't worry too much about it. Having said that, years ago I had a friend who had a mini van which kept blowing bypass hoses every few weeks.

The biggest problem with the currently available ones is the rubber quality is so poor they dont last five minutes, just like the so called improved radiator hoses made with kevlar that start to crack up in less than a year.

Does anyone know if there is a purpose for the plate with an eye in between the rear spring hanger and the wiring grommet?
I was thinking of removing it instead of trying to repair around it.[frame]

Hi
The plate is to strengthen around the rear suspension mount and is needed.
The eye is for transit ( I assume for tying down to a ship when exporting!!)
It is a bit of a rust trap and could be cut off. Ive also seen the eye bit hammered back against the inner wing and seam welded.

Thanks Taupe, I was only thinking of removing the eye bit, not the whole plate. Just to make it easier to weld round.
