Now that's got MY interest......... :lol: I wonder why only two cylinders ? I prefer the 3 cylinder machines myself.....

Picture taken yesterday - from the Signalbox at Bo'ness. The Station Master had complained about my 'smoke' ( :roll: ) - the Signalman only scored it at '2' - and trouble only starts at '4' :D I asked him to take a picture to prove the point..........

Only if he didn't have to pay for the fuel he was burning.
Steam engines aren't known for their efficiency.
A quick Google finds;
"In practice, a steam engine exhausting the steam to atmosphere will have an efficiency (including the boiler) of 5%, but with the addition of a condenser the efficiency is greatly improved to 25% or better."
