we needed to worry about the pump... it was not clicking frequently enough.. when we disconnected the pump it was not pumping any petrol at all but continued to click every so often but far far to infrequently.. do not ask me what we did to get it working correctly but we did! putting the pump back on it pumped extremely well we also replaced the points but they did not look bad so have kept them as a spare, cleaned up the plugs, re-gapped everything.

and we were able to jump start the moggy..

ahhh we channeled the power of the bull motif.

thanks for helping charlie, you're a star!

there's a lack of tinkerers to lend each other a hand these days, i think people don't tinker as much as they used to.

three cheers for the spirit of community. after charlie left i sanded down flat the brass faces of the banjo, two new copper washers for a good seal, put the new boot on, snugged up the wheel cylinder and it's awaiting bleeding while i build myself a pressure spray style one man bleeding kit. when i can get the diggy together and depending how much i use moggie which might be a lot i hope, i will replace the whole brake system. filled the dashpot with 3in1, i didn't have any sae20 to hand. she's ticking nicely now. also the light in the sky started to go but i hosed out the rad and flushed out the green coolant and replaced with comma blue. she's all sealed up and happy now. nearly there! i look forward to helping others and meeting new people who love moggies in the surrey area!

i have ordered a grease gun and an oil can, looking forward to some pump action soon.

just putting together a diy cigarette adaptor socket and getting ready to clean the sunkissed vinyl seats, last resort i will try paint panel wipe.

I've moved the posts about cleaning vinyl seats from here into xpress's other post about cleaning vinyl seats here: http://www.mmoc.org.uk/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=31261

Yes, posts do go off topic but as this is a thread about the petrol pump, and xpress is already discussing vinyl seat cleaning in his other post, it makes sense to keep each of the threads 'on topic'. It also helps anyone who is looking for advice about a particular topic if the advice is where they expect it to be - in a suitably titled thread :D

if this is the petrol pump thread then i'd better add that there was some blowing and sucking and removing of petrol pump filter and it unstuck it, without needing to open the diaphragm, but i read that there are now new rubber backed diaphragms you can buy that might be better with unleaded and might not stick as much! i might look into these.

i love reading old threads, a great source of info and learning.

bled the brakes today, adjusted the drums on all fours. pedal isn't as firm as i'd like but the drums lock up and i can't move then with my hands when the pedal is down and i adjusted up the handbrake to 5 clicks and i can't move the wheels.

however, i drove around the car park and moggie cut out even with the choke right out. started her up once with the starting handle which was a novelty, then she cut out twice and had to push her back to the garage. i think the petrol pump is intermittent, will replace the points. i had to turn the starter handle in first gear to get her back in the garage humph lol.
