And - and - it's not painted GOLD ! So can't be a recon unit ........... but see other thread how to rectify this.........maybe 
It is 40 years since the car was built so anything could have been fitted. If the original low compression 1098 was worn out and a previous owner or his friend had a spare 948 engine lying around without a cylinder head then it could have been dropped in with the 1098 head.
It is not the only 1098 LCV in the Oxon & Berks branch with a 948 engine.
