The Great Escape is on CLASSICS Channel on January 2nd at 9PM, think you have to subscribe to that channel though so I might put it on DVD at the same time and pretend, watched Miss Potter last night a great film if you love the Lake District scenery.

633 Squadron earlier tonight! Classic film - although some 'continuity' problems! They actually flew 5 Mosquitos (and crashed one!) in the making of the film. With 3 others used on the ground only.

Lost track of the number of times I've seen 633 and many of the others. The Battle of Britain is a classic. For some reason I always get a lump in the throat whenever I hear the Dambusters theme tune.

Watched '633 Squadron' last night. Great fun! There was a very odd 60's Land Rover in the background early on. The women's make up and hair was completely wrong, just like in 'The Battle of Britain'.
The best moment in the Dambusters is when they hit the Dutch coast and variously say 'Enemy Coast Ahead'. Always sends a tingle through the spine. My 10 year old said the same thing out loud looking out the window on an Easyjet flight to Berlin earlier this year. Cue grovelling apologies and a frosty atmosphere....

Well done 10 year old. Apologise for nothing! The Germans certainly don't!

Many years ago my cousin was involved in school exchanges. One German girl came to stay and the younger of my two cousins must have been playing up. My late aunt asked the German girl, "Do you get naughty boys in Germany?" and my younger cousin whispered to his mother "I know of one naughty boy from Germany....Hilter". I think this must have been one of those
awkward moments.

I watched the Great Escape this year on a much wider TV screen and was hoping that with the longer run up Steve McQueen might just make it over the barbed wire fence on his motor bike but alas he didn't.
It was in HD aswell. How do they do that?
Seasons Greetings to all.

I watched a DVD of 'The Damned United' last night which was completely enjoyable. Apart from the gripping football story (I was born in 1961 so it was all huge when I was a kid), it was also set in the seventies...
The was ne'er a moggie to be seen until right at the end when there is a scene with Clough and Taylor at Peter Taylor's house. And lo! There it was, a Clipper Blue Traveller in full view for nearly five minutes.
I was a contented man.

Rob Roy (after whom I am named!) a couple of nights back. The final sword fight - when he cleaves the fop Cunningham with his last gasp effort is just amazing!
