Well, I have a vice so I may be ok on that one then. I think I'll buy the parts and then have look at all the bits and see which way to go. I wonder if an oversize bolt could be used and the threads either squashed in a vice or filed down... probably not 'top drawer' but another thought

Here's to no more rattling!

That one would fall out of the gap at the back of the bottom drawer

It will all appear much simpler when you have the parts, I assure you!
