Other options would be Supercharger or Turbocharger - blowing into that hopeless manifold! They could suck through the oil bath too - although it would need to be repositioned slightly........

Supercharger is fairly straightforward to fit. I'm thinking the Merc C class jobbies look nice and compact and can be got for about £100 second hand or £250 new.....

Yep - would boost the power by ~100%, for a while - and the insurance premium by ~ 500% for ever!

if i change it to a hs2 carb will i be able to keep the throttle spring in the same position as it is now??????????
and is it a strate swop????????

Doubt it - there isn't usually a throttle spindle extension on that side - in fact -throttle cable usually goes on that side. It will fit the manifold - but that is the worst manifold - the later 'one piece' manifolds are slightly better flowing - but still have the power zapping 'hot spot'. Just tighetn up the jet gland on your carb and it should be fine. In extremis - get an 'overhaul kit' from Burlen - which will have all new seals/washers etc.

so i cant keep the throttle spring where it is???
does that mean making a bracket???
and does anyone have a pic of a hs2 carb on the car???

Spring usually goes other side - and down to a bracket on the exhaust clamp. It's a while since I worked with these ancient carbs - but if my memory serves me right (highly unlikely I know!!) the throttle opens the other way on the early carbs?? Part of the redesign to HS type included a realisation that it worked better if opening the other way round!

i might just stick to the original carb

See josh's thread - with picture of car/manifold etc/ Yes - just sort your carb - it's easy!

ive been told that a hs2 carb would not reach the oilbath air filter is this correct???????
and is their a way round it?????

the throttle is in the wrong place on a hs2 for a start

i dont mean that josh i can get round the throttle
i mean the distance between the manifold and the air box down piece.
will it fit???????

Why would it not? It bolts to the carb - wherever the carb sits!

it looks a bit like the 803 carb i think it will fit to the hs2

Exactly!

the down piece that holds the air filter up might be at an angel and not make a seal if the body of the carb is to small
is their a difference in the size of the carb body between the two????
Posted: Fri Oct 23, 2009 6:05 pm
by bmcecosse
Not any significant difference - that's the least of the worries!
Posted: Fri Oct 23, 2009 6:06 pm
by mmjosh
ont worry about that it will probably fit
Posted: Fri Oct 23, 2009 6:07 pm
by andrew.searston
why is their anything to worry about
ive sorted the position of where the spring will go and how it will bolt on
what about the cables can i keep them the same??????
and have i missed anything?????

As I said - very possibly the throttle has to open opposite direction ? Can't remember now - it must be 40 years ago!
