Good point la - that damper is worth it's weight in gold! Even at today's gold prices!!

Seeing this post reminded me that I have the bits now to fit a simplex tensioner but lack the time so it won't happen for a few weeks. :cry:
What I did notice was that the head on the tensioner pin, the bit that needs the clearance hole, was a thick as the front plate itself. Would it be wiser to reduce the thickness of the head or have the front plate off and drill straight through. I noticed the block to front plate gasket goes around the area so I don't think it would cause any problem. Can anyone confirm if a mini front plate clearance hole goes all the way through. I think I saw a workshop manual picture that showed it did.
It's a shame the tensioner isn't made a different way to avoid the need of this clearance hole, it would make it all alot more staightroward.

Duplex chain works well in my Series MM, no tensioners. But then Morrises were over engineered compared to Austins

I don't think I drilled through - just spotted a blind hole.
