The seller has now amended his ad and thanked the "eagley eyed members of the Morris Owners Club" for their help.

Aye - I had a long exchange with him about it through ebay! Though in fact - that was mostly with the seller of the 'other' car that claims to be 1958 - and is NOT! I did exchange messages with both of them - the 1958 Trade seller quickly went in the huff! Don't touch it with a barge pole!

a few on here were suggesting only recently that there was nothing wrong in changing a car's identity
and probably some of the same ones that now think it's not ok...

It might save the car from scrappage, but what would be the use if the owner was in prison?
