:D Its okay don't panic  Just trawling through the puta for pics and quite liked this one. Its the result of a GPO van hitting the K series traveller whilst both were doing 30mph. I was amazed that the roof was buckled along with the sills and floor pan and the bulkhead X member, yet the coil over were still in one piece if not quite where we originally put them.
The mechanics were all saved and the car was re born. It now belongs to Omex with a 170bhp Zetec in it.

So you buy a zetec and fit bike carbs. OK.
How do you start it?
(Dont forget the ignition side needs sorting too. )

You could buy a set of GSXR carbs, send them to Bogg Brothers and get them setup for your engine spec and posted back attached to a manifold ready to bolt on.
You could then take Fords simple 'ECS' dizzy-less ignition system from an old MK3 fiesta or MK4 escort. Its 'plug and play' and will fit the sensors on the zetec. This can be found in your local scrappy for pennies.

Having done all this you'll be left with a thirsty out of tune engine that's not running to its full potential. The ignition map will be wrong and the carbs will use more fuel than an EFI system (granted they'll sound sexy).

Proper throttle bodies require custom management which = more expense!

My point in all this - keep it as Ford intended. Some Zetec-engined cars have a totally self-contained engine loom which makes it even easier. All you have to do is plug it in and live it up. Job done.

Couldn't I just go to a catrum factory and get a z-tech from there and the gear box I think it would be easier than getting it out of the car :D

Or.. just go to the factory and buy a caterham and save yourself the bother of faffing about with a minor.
Whatever you do to the Minor it wont be as good as a caterham - well not without an incredible amount of cash anyway..
As a side note, I spoke to a caterham owner and he said they use their own boxes - not type 9s. Anyone got any info on these or was he mistaken?

I think they will use the close ratio boxes based on the Type 9 or the 6 spd also based on the type 9 or the sequential 6 spd also based on the type 9 casing so yes and no Dunk
There are several major differences in fitting the Zetec into a Caterham or Minor, all of this is done for you with our instalations, or you are quite welcome to work it all out yourselves. You will find the Caterham will charge the earth for a base Zetec package, unmodified to suit the Minor. The list goes on.................

'work it out for yourselves' is a little scary considering the amount of structural work you'd really need to do.
I can imagine people cutting and boxing he x-member and cramming it in there only to have the bulkhead crack a few months down the line.

Thanks but no thanks. A job for the experts if ever there was one.
If anyone brave (or daft) enough to DIY needs help with wiring I can forward on all the info I have for the loom.

do you thinh his car is fast

by jonathon
No not really. But I know he enjoyed the track experience. Its faster than standard, ,but I suppose its what you compare it with. He did talk of a super dooper Duratec conversion which would be quick, but I don't know how far off that is from being on the road.
He'll have to bring the trav to Snetterton on OCT 1 st and see how quick it is against 6 other Minors. :D

I rather go Supercharged, much less heat in the engine bay easy fit and power through 100% 0f the rev range.Have a look at the pics of our supercharged Zetec build here on
