The number plate below the towbar gives very poor ground clearance. Another option is to have a square plate made and mount it on a rear door - you get away with one lamp housing too.

Apparently, from an earlier post in this thread - " Where's your sense of aesthetics, man? " - the aesthetic Police don't allow that!

But at least their's are engineered properly.
Why, Sir, are you suggesting i wont do it properly
Not at all Rob just saying that economy is not always the correct way forward :D

As for the Titanic and Ark the first was sunk by bad application not bad engineering and the second is a bit of mythology, and I confess that I didnt know either had towbars but you learn something new every day (well I do) :)

and as for

Exactly!

Anyone who doesn't manufacture towbars as a profession is obviously incapable of doing the job safely!
It's true- the State Nanny told me so!

Where did I say that !! as we have quite a few trained angineers & mechanics on the board I would not suggest that, and anyway that means you must think that Dru's one is a great example of a well made one.

A "lovely piece of work" is not necessarily the same as a well engineered one, hence my comments re: Dru's application. I vaguely remember quite a discussion previously about the forward mounting points for the towbars, not even going to try and search it as I often have trouble sifting search items!

Don't the aesthetic Police patrol north of the border, Roy?

And I can assure you - WE are all paying out a fortune for Scottish MSPs and their expenses - as well as real MPs and all their expenses! It's a nightmare!

Please be carefull ,that the centre bracket wont pierce the fuel tank
in the event of a rear end colision.

Good point there! Better that it protects the tank - rather than pierce it. Was it the Caravel (Unsafe at Any Speed) that had the horrendous rear mounted fuel tank explosion problems ?

Can't afford petrol these days. A valid point though.

A few AMC Pacer's went up in smoke from rear impacts and also some early E Type Jags...

Yes - I was confusing it withe Corvair - which was the subject of Nader's book - 'Unsafe at Any Speed' - which is a great read even today, 30 years on!
