O.K. Gareth, conceded - BUT
Someone somewhere MUST know why there are two holes punched in the top of the liner. :-? They can't be there for no reason.

Were they for a factory assembly tool?
That's often the reason for seemingly random holes....

Possibility Ray, assembly line time is important so there could have been some quick method of fitting, it took me about 20 min. to fit one, quite a fiddle :( sorry to go harping on re a simple thing like superfluous (possibly) holes in glovebox liners, but it's niggling away!

They could have been used as anchorage points to get the carboard moulded around the back piece.

Fitting is fairly easy, but it could depend on the size of your hands... Turn the inner sideways and push through the hole. Then turn it inside, and push it back towards the dash from the round hole under the strengthener... There again, lining the lids up, I suppose the whole thing could take 15-20 mins, so its not that bad going.

What I did, Gareth, was fix the liner in place without the lid using 2 screws on one side and 1 the other. Removed the outer of the two, offered up the lid at an angle and refittd the screw through the hinge. Removed the other two, positioned the lid and then fitted the remaining three holding the liner up from underneath. Bit limited here because my radio's in the way a bit and I've also used a sheet of rubber to protect the radio!
Other side should hopefull be easier after removing steering wheel (no radio).
I wonder how these liners were fitted in LCV/van models, were there lids? Still thinking of the top holes!

Nope - no lids in the LCVs... so that could be a possibility. Maybe very early cars had screws all round, until they thought that they weren't needed - cost cutting... see. ;)

As for your fitting... I think I see what you were doing. Sounds similar, and the radio certainly wouldn't help matters. I think I fitted mine after the gloveboxes, so that could explain something.

The driver's side is a bit tricky because of the steering column, and all the wires underneath the liner. However, it's possible!
