I may end up using the strong parts of both chassis to make one good one.

looking at the pics of the chassis it looks pretty poor, so yes use both to make one good one

Or PM Taupe, he may hand file you one with some off cuts of steel he has. :D

Decision made, found a local coachworks that will do the welding on my new chassis, so off comes the front suspension.

next step is to unbolt the cab and get some help seperating it from the chassis.

well cab off at last, but a grind out with the wire wheel in an angle grinder shows all, still everything thats good on this one is bad on my other chassis and vice versa. That front nearside leg is just holding on by the top plates

I wonder how much It'll cost me to get this done, my weldings not upto working on this crucial area so I've no choice but to get professional help, I'll let yoy know what the quote is tommorow.

This job needs the cab to be present, not just weld new legs and X member. Use the cab as a jig and make sure that plenty of measurements are made and the the legs have not spread or gone out of parrallel. Make sure that the cab is square on the chassis too as any misalignment will throw out the suspension geometry or create a vehicle that 'crabs' along the road.

Well several quotes later and both chassis will be involved to make one good one. first stop Blast treat of Arundel for a complete sandblasting of the chassis on tuesday, then onto the engineering workshop for the upper works to be transfered from chassis B to Chassis A. I'll post a picture of the freshly shot or beeding blasted chassis on here next week.
Image
The Chassis pictured above is now at Blast treat, and I had a pleasant suprise in that he only quoted me £50-60 quid when he saw the chassis in person, so to speak, from pictures he'd quoted £80-100. I guess the morris chassis looks bigger on paper than in the flesh. So that'll be a week or so being blasted. In the meantime, this donor chassis pictured below needs its rear axle and springs stripped of... when the rain stops.

little by little rust is giving way to clean rust treated metal, gives you a little boost seeing the before and after...

then a spray of acid etch primer from a can to keep the damp at bay.

Lovely clean brakeplate david..
Is that wire brushed or chemical clean?

by davidmiles
Both, the wire brush gets it down to clean steel, the white spirit gets rid of any grease residue then the rust treatment is applied before the acid etch primer.
The rear axle was next, not keeping these springs, so I used a car jack to force them off the mount. Worked well. you can see the safety glasses just in case something wanted to go out with a bang.
Image
I'll check these against other u bolts I have and choose the ones in best condition. They are still available new if neither set is up to scratch.
Image
with the rear axle and springs off the chassis is ready to act as donor to the first chasis now being sand blasted. moving this around has bent the front chassis leg up, makes me think Ive made the right choice to use the first chassis and this as donor.
Image
just need to keep the wind and rain out for a few days before hauling this covered chassis off to the workshop.

This exhaust pipe mount bracket has seen better days. anyone know if they make replacements anywhere, looks as if someone just cut right through its securing bolt with an angle grinder.
