As far as i know they were always fitted and the 49 MM tourer i used to own had them. A converted saloon would explain the fixed side windows though and it is definatly an original lowlight even if it did have a roof on when it left the factory!
I stand corrected 8)

If you are happy with the car and it's what you want then buy. For me the genuine bit is for the purist, if this doesn't bother you..... it's still a nice looking road worthy car. :)

I think we've come to the conclusion that its a conversion. However, do not let that put you off! As long as its solid and runs well go for it! After all its still only 1 of 2 in the country (and you don't need to tell people its a conversion!)

You might even be able to use the conversion to be able to negotiate a discount

Can anyone help Carlos with information on saloon to convertible conversions so that he can add the correct extra panels and the car will not shake itself apart on rough roads.
Carlos, I hope that the seller is not trying to tell you it is a genuine tourer.
You should be able to reduce the price for a conversion.

I would hope not. A dealer should have put the proper strengthening panels in

I just noticed something. I have a picture of the Morris Motors Fire Brigade (in the museum) as my desktop and when my computer froze, I see it does not have the convertible braces by the door post. The fixed sides may help but I would think since they had everything available to them, they would have put them on. Does anybody have any information on this?

That was based on a commercial prototype so would more than likely have a full length chassis unlike the saloons

That vehicle is the strangest collection of parts I have come across. Short bonnet, central speedo inst. panel, 1098 running gear etc. The info notice in the museum says that it was built on a van chassis but a look underneath shows that it has a saloon floorpan. I don't suppose that it was ever intended to do many miles outside the factory so bracing panels were probably not an issue.
