Sorry the above was aimed at Morrisfan, who also has an apparently abandoned morris minor left at the side of the road.

Ken, it looks to be complete, from the outside the outer panels look solid, mind you thats no guarantee of what you may find deeper in. what are the floors and sills like?

I had a quick look underneath, everything appeared to be in decent nick. I couldn't see the rear bit of the spring hangers though. The boot floor looked decent enough. There was even the original handbook in the car. No obvious address info or names of garages. Zilch.

Ok, here we go. The car was indeed know to the Club and Liz has very helpfully been in contact with the former member. Hopefully, I will hear from them at some point. My V888 application has been sent off to the DVLA. I went to the local police station this morning and left a copy of my letter of intent. They have stamped my copy and the PC has filed it. The PC also accessed the PNC which confirmed that the car has no tax, insurance or MOT (ran out in 2008). Also no current owner shown. They have given me permission to take the car to storage which will be done in a day or so. They have updated the PNC to show all of this.

If no contact is made by the Registered Keeper then I was advised to apply for the V5C and pop down to the station to register the change. At least the car will be in a safe environment whilst all of this takes place.

Thanks to all who have supported/helped and advised. Hopefully this will be a positive result.

I will keep you all posted. Ken

Good luck with all this.
A friend aquired a Landcrab the same way about 15 years ago (actually it might hqve been 18 years... I'm starting to feel old again). The car needed almost no work for an MOT.

Thought I might have had a call from the former club member who had the car. Sadly, nothing as yet.

Look on the bright side. Your formal application may go through the system and the car will be yours. The last thing you want is the 'keeper' getting the idea the car has some value and demanding you buy it off them. In reality the car has no value to the owner - except insomuch as your actions will release him from the burden of a disposal fee.

Ah excellent.
A bit of good news for today :)

So refreshing to hear of a quick resolution too. I was anticipation a game of 'beaurocratic tennis'.

Cheers Pete. Well, the police bit was really straightforward. I have yet to find out how the DVLA will react to this. First bit is their response to my V888 application. Then I will send in my V62.

As I say the main exercise was to get the car off the highway and somewhere safe...... so thus far, job done :D

I must say thgat I had a good look underneath the car whilst she was up on the flatbed. She looks really solid, the spring hangers looked lovely. There was evidence of a small patch at the front of the car, but it looked nice and sturdy. The car was suprisingly intact apart from the rear light lens. If things work out then I will be posting a huge amount of 'what, how and help!' questions

However, I am only about halfway through my Triumph 1500SE resto. However, I might see if the new lodger will run. Oh, one thing. The guy who helped me with the loading noticed that both the clutch and brake pedals moved at the same time when depressed. That was a bit puzzling :o Something to look into if it all works out.

The brake pedal pivots on the clutch shaft. The two move together if the bushes in the brake pedal are seized. Try removing the small floor panel and oiling the shaft.

Now that is the kind of fix that makes me love old cars. Here's me thinking my Triumph was straightforward

Brilliant. Thanks for the tip :D
