The hatches are frowned upon a bit though.
Thing is the hatches are becoming rare now as many have been scrapped to give bits up for savable coupes.
I have been told that their are less than 100 manta gte's road legal and that more are coupes than hatches. The hatch could become rare enough to become valuable as a rarity.
Personally, I prefer the hatch. I think the lines are a bit neater when viewed from the side, not that it influenced our choice at the time. The car was offered to us, with roll cage already fitted at the right price. Couldn't even fold the back seats down with the cage in the way, but it was the only rally car on the events with a tow bar on it which was very useful at times...
Actually, we must have bucked the trend as we broke a coupe for spares to keep the hatch on the road! Didn't realise they were so rare these days, but I suppsoe a lot of 80's stuff has disapeared over the last few years... Our Manta didn't survive. it was the victim of a rough unsurfaced road on an event which cracked the exaust manifold and split a fuel pipe. The smell of leaking petrol was very strong when we arrived at the next control moments before it was ignited under the tank. The fire extinguisher was in the boot, so not much chance really.
Still got the spot lights and a lot of spares though!

Same here. I worked for the company making wings and body panels for Morgan for 5 years. After you've hand made 2500 or so radiator cowls and a lot of wings the enthusiasm begins to wane a bit! I was never so happy to be made redundant....
I did look at buying an written off 1600 4/4 to rebuild (as parts would have been cheap) but got outbid. Even a wreck went for silly money, and I couldn't fit in it either!
I like them and am glad (and amazed) the company is still going, but can think of better things to get with that sort of money.

Oh dear guys,
You have destroyed my dream of owning a 4+4.
What should I aspire to, a AH 3000 perhaps?

Wouldn't worry about it. I've never driven one, so no personal experience. I imagine even the smaller engined ones are something special. I still quite fancy having one, just to see what they're like really - personally I'd prefer a '50s one with the longer waterfall grill and TR2 engine and large steel wheels. Just on looks really think they're more elegant than the later ones....

just added to bottom of original post a few recent cars on the site. The p5b is lovely, needs painting but still looks good enough to turn heads. Always had a soft spot for these anyway.

Still fancy a TR myself. A 4A, 5 or 6 wouldn't be chucked away. I'd have to have a drive to make a descision on one though. A 2000 estate would be nice too. There's something about Triumphs I like. The marque had real individuality. I can't think of a single car they made in the 50's or 60's that you could confuse with another make.
And the Italia. Well......drooltastic!

I have had a tr6 and a dolly sprint in my time and I loved the tr6 to bits, in my eyes they are perfect.

I've had this in for some work, this last week:

1937 Railton Fairmile. Very nice to drive especially once the rebuilt rad went in and you could drive without watching the temp gauge...

Just added to original post a vitesse conv 2.0. nice car though not perfect.
I have looked after it for a while for a very nice local lady since her husband died. She can't bring herself to part with it but doesn't use it either so I do it for next to nothing.

Thats a very nice collection of cars, i love all classics i think the shapes are a lot better looking than todays cars. They had character todays cars dont. My favourites are the landrover as i have always liked the land rover models and have a range rover as my everyday car at the moment but the p5 is for me the best. I had 5 of these at one point 3 saloons and 2 coupes all v8s, i was restoring them to use as wedding cars then i lost the storage and had to sell them quick, broke my heart as i spent many hours on the restorations, my daily driver at that time was a p6 3500s.
I used to show that one.
