Thats alot nicer than the one i saw which went straight across at the bottom.

The curve around the hub cap really lifts it. Looks a really nice job.

If i remember correctly when I was a child [a long time ago now ] the spats I remember on my fathers car and also on some old jags had a locating pin on the front of the spat which went into a hole at the top was a flange that went into a slot and at the back was a lever inside the spat that you either pushed up to lock into a slot in the wing or pulled down which meant you did not need a screwdriver but meant if the weather was very bad you had to remove a lot of mud and hoped the leaver had not seized solid

is a spat similar in any way to mud flaps? I'm scratching my head as to what a spat would look like?

:-? Well there's two pictures of them in this thread. They blank out part of the wheel arch.

I would go for a pin and hole combination at 3 o'clock and 1 o' clock, and a little (M6ish) nut and bolt through the flanges at 9 o'clock. Don't forget that lovely swirly bit on the bottom edge-really sets it off!!

More pictures of spats on the Morris down under site. Not sure about the yellow convertible but the smoke grey one looks quite nice:

Those are stunning, I love the shape on them!

I've been messing around with some sketches based on the ideas given here. I think I'm going to go for Linearaudio's suggestion of the pin and hole combination with some aluminium as IaininTenbury says, for the lighter weight.

They're definately not these ;) ( though I do own a fair few pairs of them )
Image
LouiseM, I agree I'm not to keen on the dead straight style of the convertible, something about it really blunts the curves of the Morris, which is what I fell in love with about them in the first place :)

Thanks for all the advice on this so far, it's been invaluable and made it feel as though I could actually achieve it. Wish me luck it's a brave new world :D

If your ultimate desire is looks..just lower the rear slightly more than the front as done within kustom circles to create that lovely tail dragging stance - if you want to look up more pictures for ideas try looking for "fender skirts" as that is what Americans typically call them

Plastic orange - do you by any chance have a picture of that traveller you mentioned? Sounds lovely to me!
