Cheers for that. That explains everything. Like I said, double taxation

Not really double taxation as it is exempt unless part of the service provided, so only one tax is paid. Wierd and wonderfull system that in the case of the MOT's saw many garages get into hot water with the VAT office. One garage was charged the VAT he had not charged his customers for MOT's which was then backdated 5/6 years, leading to a payment and fine of over £26,000.

Not forgetting that you have to act as an unpaid accountant for the Inland Revenue.

I've been stuck with this one, and handling fees for returning parts.
me too - and rightly so in some cases. Special order parts incurr plenty of cost + time and effort so I can see why a supplier wouldn't want them back. For standard 'straight off the shelf' parts, the time involved to pick and pack is relevant but for an off the shelf 'catalogue' that someone thought was free included with a big order. I really do not understand a re-stocking charge.

At the end of the day it's their business, so if they prefer to do that rather than keep a good customer it's up to them.

Indeed, but if a specialist tells me that they have the part i need for my car and it is infact the wrong item I don't think I should cover a handling fee. Special order parts are, I agree different.
