Pardon me for being thick, but weren't all the Morris carb's the same size?
I'm sure both mine are SU2's, they look the same & both cars are '64, but the dashpot from the pickup will not fit into the traveller. I thought I'd try it to see if I could tune the thing up a bit, oh well...

split screen 803cc and 948 were slightly different but i think the size was the same. side valves were also different. the later ones sometimes had an anoying breather hole in the side which was meant to go to the rocker box or somthing.

Swapping dashpots isn't a good idea unless you also swap the piston.
Also you can get p[roblems just removing and replacing the dashpot - one of mine would jam the trottle slide unles one of the screws was left loose :?
Would it not just be quicker to swap the whole carb? I's just 2 bolts to the manifold, and 2 screws for the cables.

Yes, but it wasn't intended as a permanent mod, I just wanted to see what the car was really like to drive. I'd like to keep the pickup drivable.

I'm planning to take the carb off and exchange / recon when i get a moment...

ok, but I wasn't meaning as a very permanent mod either - but that way you will fiond out if it's worth buying a new carb, or if won't make much difference.

Hello again!

Car is much happier now, though takes forever to warm up, I think the thermostat is stuck open (or missing - wouldn't surprise me).

Anyway, I took the advice given and tried some engine oil (magnatec 15W-40 as I already had some) in the dashpot. Now I find that if I drop the revs suddenly (i.e. put foot on clutch to change down coming downhill) the engine cuts out. Is the oil too thick and causing the piston to fall too slowly? Or should I look elsewhere? Engine idles nicely when stationary.
