Personally I would say the Japanese cars are the best ones... Very reliable and practical, you also usually get more performance from the engines even if they're the same size as other manufaturers ones.
We've had numerous Nissans and Toyotas over the years. My mum drove a nissan prairie for a fair few years, its the first car I remember, never let us down, but she swapped it for a yaris when my brother started learning to drive.. Wish I could have it back.

Ok here goes:

Any BMW for aforementioned reasons.
Clean 4x4s ( with the bottle blonde behind the wheel etc)
New Beetle (it's a Golf in drag)
Merc E-Class (rust buckets, I've see a couple with collapsed front suspension)
Anything from over the pond after about 1970
Toyota Prius (so called green car, otherwise known as shifting the problem)
But most of all the Lexus RH400h as it pretends to be green.

...don't get me started on the Toyota Prius ...

Anything British Leyland of the 70s & 80s. The bodywork just fell off the car with rust

The Lightburn Zeta, made in a washing machine factory from washing machine parts apparently. Never rust though and they go as fast forwards as they do backwards. Worst thing was you had to turn the engine off to put it in reverse, no reverse gear, the engine just went in the opposite direction.

For me
Cars I've owned
!) Bedford Astra diesel (highly unreliable, akward to work on and rusted as don't know what!!)

2) Opel corsa, (akward to drive not good looking in my opinion)

3) Mini ( very sad to admit this but have found my Mini highly unreliable!)

From what I've seen

1)anything French! (all akward to work on)

2) Japanese ( poor finish to body)

I'd add my Fiat Stilo Multiwagon to that list too. As you say, Fiat just can't do a quality big car . .Full Stop.

My first car was a Yugo 45, a fond place in my heart and very reliable but the bodywork ...... omg ! the only car I've had where the windscreen wipers fell through the bodywork due to rust .......

HATE, HATE, HATE mini's (prepare flame proof undies.....)

Cortina mk3 (because my grandfather's would always breakdown when ever I needed to go anywhere.....)
Nissan Bluebird (85 on model) THE MOST BORING CAR IN EXISTANCE !!!!!

Volvo 340 never could figure out the ventilation system........

Cars I really dislike are the Ford KA and anything french
French car designers always seem to design things the wrong way round!

Sorry, I forgot all about the Talbot Sunbeam, but their failures somewhat outnumbered it!!

And yes the KA, a pig to work on, wouldn't like to say hello to the engine in a head on crash!!

Is this whole thread not very much against the RULES ? It's openly criticising suppliers - especially when general statements are made about 'All xyz...... make of cars ' ??

Hello there! I am new to this forum but not new to the 'Moggie' scene and found some of the comments on worst cars rather interesting! Firstly I am the lucky owner of 2 lovely Moggies, a rough but reliable 4 door '67 and a 4 door '62 registered in '66 as she turned out to be a prototype! Along with my partner, we have a '67 beetle (last of the 6 volters) and has given us 14 years of unprececedented service. They are superb cars (splitty campers are awesome) not to mention the vw scene where I have met some fantastic people and 'moggie' people are friendly too. I enjoy many classic cars and in particular the vw has one of the highest standards of finish seen on a car (just look inside a vw and no screw heads are visible in the dashboard!).

I agree that there are some cars quite difficult to categorise as a 'classic' - austin maxis, austin allegros, morris marinas, reliant robins (does that count as it only has 3 wheels?) and any modern, plastic euroboxes (no character there but technology good) seem to come to mind! Oh and I just have to say that yes, I am a bottle blonde and I most certainly don't drive a 4 x 4....... no euroboxes for me!
